Safety Breakaway Coupling
Thre Pressure Balanced Safety Coupling for Subsea Intervention & Workover Operations.

Through innovative design, secc Oil & Gas has developed the first Subsea Pressure Balanced Safety Breakaway Coupling specifically for Subsea Well Intervention and High Pressure, Hydraulic Work-Over operations.

Intervention

The secc coupling gives significant protection to high pressure lines (sizes from ¾” to 4¹⁄16”) trailing from the support / intervention vessel to the subsea infrastructure, in the event of loss of vessel DP or other emergency.

With the capability of working at seawater depths of over 10,000 feet and with line pressures of over 15,000 psi, the coupling, with its ‘Full Bore’ design, is ideally suited for the transfer of hazardous chemicals, hydraulic fluid, the re-injection of drill-chippings / drill mud and for various viscous products such as marine grease.

intervention coupling cut away

Because of the Pressure Balanced design, the coupling has no separation forces acting on the coupling interfaces; this gives a 100% dry break during a separation event, together with the capability for the coupling to be ‘re-made’ by either ROV or Diver while both sides of the transfer line are under full line pressure.

This crucially minimizes well intervention down-time / workover operations, in the event of support vessel “Drive Off”, giving added protection to deck crew, vessel, subsea infrastructure and prevents environmental damage to the surrounding area.

Can be mounted to a fixed subsea structure or between two hoses.

Can be actuated with a tensile force (pull) of up to 15º to the angle of the plane of the coupling housing (when coupling is fixed to a solid subsea structure)

Pressure balanced with no separation forces between coupling faces.

100% shut-off during separation (no environmental pollution to surrounding area)

Break-stud force can be easily defined.

Break-stud can be installed & removed by ROV or Diver.

Bore sizes: ¾”, 1½”, API 2¹/16” API 3¹/8” API 4¹/16”.

Three designs of operating pressures on all bore sizes:
0 to 5,000 psi (345 bar)
0 to 10,000 psi (690 bar)
0 to 15,000 psi (1,034 bar).

End connections: Weld-end / NPT Male, Female / Hammer Union and API Flanged.

Subsea operating depth 10,000 feet (3,000 meters).

Standard materials of construction: Super Duplex (Titanium available on request).

Sealing materials specification:
Variseal (Turcon T40)
Working temperature: -53ºC to + 300ºC
Working pressure:
2,000 bar max differential pressure.
Chemical ratings:
Hydro-carbons, water, steam, solvents, acids, caustics.

‘Full Bore’ design makes it ideal for the safe transfer of viscous products such as grease and for use in the ‘re-injection’ of drill-chippings / drill-mud.
